How a urinary problem is usually assessed

Assessment starts with the story: when and where the pain began, how your urine has changed and what tests or scans you already have. Then an examination and a urine test.

A test result or a scan alone is not a diagnosis. Each result is read together with symptoms and examination. If needed, imaging is done, and then the options are weighed together: watchful monitoring, medicine, a minimally invasive procedure or surgery.

Treatment does not end with one visit or one procedure. Follow-up and preventing a recurrence are part of the path. Many urinary problems respond to simple monitoring and care, and not all of them end in an operation.
